Video. Dr. Nche Abegly Zama: Racial discrimination in the American healthcare system

American Romanian Coalition for Human and Equal Rights Group(ARCHER)- Dr. Nche Abegly Zama shared with us his perspective and experience with racial discrimination in the healthcare system. We found his expertise, humbleness, and vulnerability so comforting and inspiring.

"Healthcare is the largest industry in the United States and accounts for approximately 20% of the GDP of the United States — that’s about $4 trillion. Yet health disparities are part of entrenched, systemic racism in America: - Blacks receive less and worse care than whites. This has remained unchanged for centuries. - Blacks have worse outcomes than whites and other ethnicities in terms of cancer, heart disease, and many other major diseases. - Blacks have a shorter life expectancy than whites. - Obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer disproportionately affects blacks. - Blacks receive better care when they are seen by black doctors. -Only 5% of American physicians are black". Nche Zama, MD, Ph.D.
