Hesperus Cultural Foundation event 2023

I had the pleasure of participating during the 2023 Hesperus Cultural Foundation Awards event that took place in Bucharest, Romania, at the Metropolitan Library Mihail Sadoveanu. Although I was present only via zoom, I was excited to respond to the invitation of the founder and director of this organization, prof. Dr. Ioan Iacob.

During this event I had the opportunity of speaking and meeting the other distinguished guests from both sides of the Atlantic. From USA we were honored by profesor Dr. Amy Branam,  Professor of English and Immediate Past President and Treasurer, Poe Studies Association, Mr. Călin Huma Honorary Consul of Romania in UK,  Associate Professor PhD. Mugur Zlotea from the University of Bucharest and other university students.

The panel  discussed the importance of Mihai Eminescu literature work and the connection between Eminescu and Edgar Allen Poe’s writings and future ways of connecting those two countries ( Romania and USA) and their literature work together, across the Atlantic.

I underlined the role of Eminescu’s work and contribution in the universal literature, a reference made especially by a great Romanian author and well known professor Mircea Eliade, who taught at University of Chicago, until his passing in 1986. His archives (176 boxes with thousands of documents) are held now by the Special Collections of the University of Chicago Library.

Furthermore, I expressed my support in promoting the publication of future news and articles related to Eminescu and Poe in the Romanian American media.
