FBI SEEKS FOREIGN LANGUAGE SPEAKERS

The Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is hosting a recruiting event to add to their ranks of individuals with fluency in a variety of foreign languages. The event will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the offices of the Assyrian National Council of Illinois, located at 9131 Niles Center Road in Skokie, Illinois. Persons interested in a Contract Linguist position with the FBI are invited to attend anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Free parking is available at the corner of Kenton and Church.
The FBI’s Foreign Language Program is looking for individuals fluent in Bulgarian, Chinese Mandarin/Cantonese, Farsi, Hebrew, Somali, Arabic-Yemeni, Uzbek and Spanish (Dominican, Puerto Rican and Mexican dialects). Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have a professional level of fluency in both English and the foreign language(s) and be willing to undergo a thorough background investigation. In addition, applicants must have lived in the U.S. continuously for at least three of the last five years (unless required to travel overseas by the federal government) and must be prepared for an on-site foreign language assessment interview. Applicants are asked to bring a resume to the event.
As a vital partner in today’s law enforcement and intelligence communities, the FBI continues its mission to safeguard America and its people. The FBI’s expanding role creates many new opportunities for linguists in a growing number of languages. Contract linguists, through their language expertise, assist in combating cyber crime, terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, corruption, kidnappings, civil rights violations and other crimes under the jurisdiction of the FBI.
The work of a contract linguist includes translating documents or audio recordings into English, serving as an interpreter for investigative interviews and providing translation during visits by foreign dignitaries. The possibilities are vast and offer a challenging and rewarding opportunity to selected candidates.
The contract linguist position pays $27.00 to $41.00 per hour, and candidates offered a contract will work for the FBI at its Chicago office. While all linguists begin as contract employees, the position may lead to full-time employment as a language analyst.
